The Abarca's :: A family portrait session in Santa Monica

Shannon and Jose are some of my oldest friends. In fact, they were the very first couple I ever had a portrait session with a long, long time ago. You can see a photo from it here. Well, they have since brought into this world two amazing girls called Morgan and Maya. The Abarca family are the kind of people that always welcome others into their home, cook some fierce tacos, draw you drawings of "ponycorns" and are always there when you need them.

We decided to head out to the Third Street Promenade and beach in Santa Monica as this was a place we hung out at a lot when we were teenagers. The place has changed in some places but not so much in others, kind of like us.

We started over at the outdoor mall area.

Sisters.

To know them, is to love them.

This makes me smile every time I look at it.

Then we headed over to Puzzle Zoo. An old favorite.

Maya and a "ponycorn".

Rawr.

Now on to the beach.

Jose and his cool Marc Davis inspired Pirates of the Caribbean tattoo in progress.

Finn, Hazel, Ivy and Katie - A fun family session in Yorba Linda

This is one amazing and unique family. The children have different mothers, but share the same sperm donor father. They all met on the internet through a donor registration designed for families to connect with their genetic kindred.
S. Krystal is the mother of Finn, Denise and CJ are the mothers of Hazel and Ivy and Mary is the mother of Katie. Two of the families live right here in Southern California and this was the first time they got to meet Katie and Mary who came all the way down from Indiana so she could bond with her siblings.
It was fun to see how much they looked alike, to see how well they got along and how well they didn't get along. Just like your average brothers and sisters.
Goes to show that the typical family dynamic is ever changing and that as long as you have love, you have family.

A Trip to Travel Town

Took a trip to Travel Town with the Jovel kids for a day full of sun, fun and trains! Little J's favorite thing on Earth are trains. Older sis M was a a natural in front of the camera. Together we got some great shots of them playing and posing with mom for a few also.
I enjoy any excuse to go out and shoot on a location where we can have fun too. I know when I was little I hated doing those Sears portraits where we had to dress up and be photographed in a stuffy little studio. Those were no fun. Shoots like these we create memories together and get some great moments captured forever to boot.
I love that.
Telling older sis what's up
Walking to the big trains
Choo! Choo!
J loves to run
He certainly gave me a good workout chasing after him
Playing peekaboo
There he goes running again
M is so photogenic
Thomas!
A kiss for mommy
Thanks to the Jovel's for letting me be part of their day. It was an honor.
If you are interested in taking some fun family portraits the weather is perfect right now. Let's go have some fun!
