Mary & Chris are rad and super in love. Together they created a simple and gorgeous space to live and laugh in together. I wanted to capture a casual and relaxed lifestyle session that showed real connection between two creatives. Mary, Chris and their DTLA loft were perfect for this endeavor.

Yay! Amy & Thom's gorgeously, geeky engagement session was featured on When Geeks Wed. To see the post, go here. I've posted a few (well, a lot cause I love so many) of my favorites here as well.
Needless to say, I had a phaser blast of a good time shooting these two powerhouse geeks in love. I have been a fan of Amy's blog Geek With Curves for a few years now. So, when she asked me to do a photo shoot of her and her talented comic book writer fiancé, Thomas Zahler of Love and Capes fame, I jumped at the chance. We brainstormed a couple of locations, like possibly Disneyland, and ulitmately came up with a most awesome location of the House of Secrets comic book shop in Burbank.
I knew that Amy was a big Star Wars fan, but when I found out Thom is a Trekkie/Trekker I got a little more excited, as I am more of a Trek fan myself. Then, when I was told there would be phasers and lightsabers involved, I got even more excited. It was fun to play up the whole Star Trek vs Star Wars angle, but all-in-all GEEK LOVE conquers all.
Congratulations to Amy & Thom on their engagement! LLAP, MTFBWY & XO Rachel
Amy's adorable X-Wing & R2-D2 dresses are from Her Universe
Amy's Lord of the Ring's Galadrial engagement ring is from Badali Jewelry
Photographed here with a page from Love and Capes, of course.
Amy is stunning in her TARDIS blue dress from Pin-Up Clothing complete with TARDIS necklace.
She incorporated some Doctor Who as Thom proposed to her in front of the TARDIS at Clockwork Couture. Now what girl could have resisted that?
Star Trek phasers on loan from Scott Tipton
And we end this blog post with one of my favorites from the day

At 9:20 AM I sent Jeff a text saying that I was in place and ready to shoot. I felt all covert and stuff trying to look nonchalant in the barely-there bushes with my big 'ol lens to the side of the bluff. I am sure I didn't look suspicious at all. My heart raced as I saw them ride to the spot Jeff showed me 4 weeks earlier during our first initial plotting. Then, it was happening, he got down on one knee. I couldn't hear what was happening as I was shooting from afar to give them their moment alone, but I could tell by her reaction that it was a YES!!! Some people biking along the PCH cheered and then I cheered and they hugged and hugged. It was so amazing to be a part of this amazing moment in the lives of two people so very in love.
This is a bluff that Jeff and Nichole come to often to watch the sunrise or sunset as it looks over the PCH. The days beforehand it was raining, but there was no rain in sight. He couldn't have picked a better time or place, nor could he have picked a better person to have spend the rest of his life with.
Congrats to the lovely Nichole and Jeff! xo, Rachel
